Learning to Fly.

OK so you are not a member of the Heartbreakers but that’s ok, you can still learn how to fly with us. Come with us on our Fly Zone where you are going to soar 35+ feet off the grounds, soaring between majestic 200-year-old mango and mahogany trees via a series of ropes, cables, and suspended bridges. There are many other obstacles as well and we can promise you a good time as well as a fair amount of perspiration.

Fly Zone

“The clearest way into the universe is through a forest wilderness.”
                                                                                           John Muir
The Treetop Adventure Tour of Loterie Farm is a forest canopy tour, not to be confused with a zip-ride.  Both canopy tours and zip-ride have their merits,  but, they are quite different. The rewards inherent in each of these experiences are up to the participant to determine.
Typically, a zip ride is a high-speed descent down a steel cable lasting in most cases less than 60 seconds. Zip rides are an amusement park style adaptation of the classic zip lines for those who seek an adrenaline-pumping thrill ride with all of the safety responsibility in the hands of the zip rides operator.  There is no user input, making this kind of tour appropriate for those with motor skill/dexterity issues and or physical limitations, or simply, those seeking a “rollercoaster” type experience. There are 2 such zip-rides on the Dutch side of St. Martin.
Whereas the Loterie Farm Treetop Adventure Tour does have classic zip lines within the experience, we are a forest canopy tour in the truest sense of the word. Forest Canopy tours have evolved from biological studies of the rainforest of Costa Rica.  Scientists were looking for a way to study and explore the densely forested areas without disturbing the ecosystem.  The zip lines, elevated bridges, and platforms high in the elevations of trees gave them a birds-eye view of the natural events within the ecosystem without disturbing the environment.
At the base of Pic Paradis, the island’s highest mountain, Loterie Farm is home to the only real tropical forest on the entire island, our Treetop Adventure Tour places substantial focus on ecology.  With guides who educate participants about the ecosystem, history,  and natural surroundings, our tour let’s those who engage, take in the beautiful forest from high in the treetops, while zipping from one platform, or traversing a variety of canopy bridges to the next.  The experience is intimate.  There’s something about the feeling of the cable whizzing by, and the warmth that seeps through the glove and into the palm of one’s hand as the cable is squeezed. It’s a rewarding experience of being in control of your progression while witnessing and sometimes interfacing with monkeys, iguanas, and tropical birds all of which make the tropical forest of Loterie Farm their home.
To participate in this tour, you should have an interest in ecology, as well as an urge for personal accomplishment and self-discovery.  You should be in excellent physical condition with a maximum weight of 100 Kg (220 lbs) and a minimum height of 1.40 Meters (55 Inches).  Comfortable clothing and closed shoes are recommended.
